Keto Reloaded - A New Mindset

Keto - When You Think You've Failed But The Reverse Is True!

So we’ve celebrated Thanksgiving, Christmas and the beginning of the New Year; some of us even celebrated birthdays and anniversaries too!

And did you notice that most of the food we had was “off-limits” for the so-called “real” or “traditional” Keto dieters?

If you’re like me, you might have planned to skip all the “wrong food”, BUT you ended up eating them anyway.

So, did we fail?

Should we feel guilty about it?

Should we just give up on our weight loss efforts?

No, no, and NO!

I didn’t fail. You didn’t fail and we are NOT GUILTY! And we’re certainly not giving up on our weight loss journey!

You know why?

Because with Keto Reloaded, we do things differently.

First of all, we refuse to be judged, not even by ourselves. Secondly, we didn’t do anything wrong, so we are not guilty of anything.

Refuse to accept any guilt, not even a little bit! Here’s the truth:

The Keto Reloaded mindset understands that social gatherings and celebrations matter to us much more than a number on a scale!

Practicing Keto does not mean that we isolate ourselves or abandon our lives, because flexibility is key to having a balanced lifestyle.

We also remind ourselves that:

One meal does not undo progress and that progress is built over time, not measured by strict adherence.

So, I gave myself permission to enjoy the holiday meals, dessert and all! And one of my Christmas gifts, the delicious cookies in this picture.

I also allowed myself to evaluate and plan what I can do differently or suggest to others for the next time we gather.

Here’s what I plan to do next time:

1.      Offer to cook a Keto dish for the family. We were hosted by Kathy, my co-grandma, and she just loves to have the family gather at her house, BUT I was uneasy that she did all the cooking and then tried so hard to serve everyone (most of us were adults!)

So next time we are at Kathy’s house, in addition to turning up with the Keto dish,

a)      I will suggest and help her with setting up a self-service table so every adult can help themselves

b)     Convince her (with some anticipated difficulty) to let the parents serve their kids

c)      Convince her (with help from our girls) that we should all use disposable plates and cups, so we don’t have to do the dishes. An “upgrade” here would be if the girls also turned up with ready-to-eat food, then everyone would take their dirty dishes back home with them!

Open the delicious gifts in the presence of others, so I don’t have to eat a whole box of cookies all by myself when I get back to my apartment!

This strategy worked so well the last time I got chocolate as a birthday gift. My daughter and her two kids helped me work on it and we were done in less than 30 minutes! (by the way, Kathy is the other grandma of my grandbabies)

The bottom line is …

As we do Keto, or any other diet, let’s be gracious to ourselves, build in flexibility, and look at the long-term, not just the present moment.

I wish you all the best in this festive season and the coming new year.

More blessings,

Dr Winnie Wafula
